What is the minimum order quantity and packaging size?
The minimum order quantity depends on the product range. For most items it is 5 KG. Some products are also available in a 1 kg packaging.
Are formulations and formulation guidelines available?

What is the difference between a glitter and a pearlescent pigment?
Glitter are precision cutted reflecting flakes made out of polyester film. They create high sparkling effects in course particle sizes. Pearlescent pigments are transparent mica or borosilicate based flakes providing a more smooth, lustre and shimmering effect.
What is the influence of the particle size of a special effect pigment?
With the right choice of special effect pigments, depending on their particle size, different colouring effects can be achieved. For the Geopearl® pearlescent pigments small particle sizes (< 25 µm) create a soft, silk satin effect and they opacify the mass. They enhance the hiding power of your formulation. Large particle sizes of pearlescent pigments (20 - 150 µm, 20 - 250 µm, 50 - 500 µm ) create a sparkling, glittering lustre effect with high brilliance and transparency. This phenomenon is similar for Metalloy® aluminium pigments. Small particles (30 - 60 µm) create a brilliant effect with high coverage. Bigger sized particles of aluminium pigments provide high lustre (50-80 µm) and sparkling effects (50-150 µm) with a characteristic metallic shine. An overview is given below.

Can all glitter products be used in plastics?
No. There is glitter for cosmetic and industrial applications. Because of its heat resistance Geometal® is the only glitter suitable for use in plastic applications.
Can special effect pigments be combined with other raw materials?
Yes, all recommended special effect pigments show good compatibility with other raw materials. A combination of pearlescent and aluminium effect pigments for example can provide beautiful and surprising new colour shades. In contrast to traditional iron oxide pigments, Metalloy® will not only colour the product but also provide a metallic brilliance.
Can coloured pearlescent pigments be used to provide colour to plastics?
Next to standard colorants, also coloured pearlescent pigments can be used to provide colour to formulas. In contrast to iron oxides, they will not only colour the product but also provide a pearlescent shine.
Can you disperse aluminium pigments?
Yes, but avoid high sheer because that might cause deformation and degradation of the aluminium flakes which results in a darker and less metallic look from the presence of fines and surface distortions. Degradation can expose unprotected metal surfaces and increase the potential for chemical reaction with water or some other components in the formulation.
Can you grind or mill special effect pigments?
Avoid grinding and milling of special effect pigments. The particles might break or the coating layer of the pigment might be damaged when the mechanical stress to the pigments is too high. This might result in loss of lustre, brilliance, change in shade or destabilization of your formulation. Special effect pigments disperse well without grinding. They can be added to the powder system while stirring after milling of the organic/inorganic pigments and before the binder is added.
Can you mix different coloured special effect pigments?
Absorption pigments mix substractively because the visible colour is the non-absorbed portion of light. A mixture of red and yellow is orange and a mixture of all colours is black. Interference pigments mix additively, because the visible colour is the reflected portion of light. A mixture of complementary colours like red and green is white and also a mixture of all interference colours is white.
What are the recommended pigmentations for special effect pigments?
Although it depends on the final effect you want to achieve, GEOTECH established a good guideline for pigmentations to start formulating. An overview is available upon request.
How to incorporate aluminium pigments in emulsions?
Add pigments to the oil phase for the best stability. Mix the oil phase and heat up to room temperature before adding the aluminium pigments. Optimal pH level: 5.5 – 8.0. The homogenization stage should be kept at a minimum for optimum results.
What are the pH adjustment guidelines for aluminium pigments?
It is not always recommended to make adjustments to decrease the pH. If necessary use dilute base, preferably AMP (aminomethyl propanol) or secondary amines, added slowly. Use very dilute acid added very, very slowly, e.g. dilute acetic acid or dilute citric acid can sometimes be used for pH adjustment. The optimal pH range is 6-8 although higher or lower pH values may be possible. However, all formulations should be tested for stability.
Are Metalloy® pigments suitable for water based formulations?
Metalloy® aluminium pigments are not recommended for water based formulations.
